MSP to conduct full-scale emergency response exercise on May 8

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) will join regional public safety and community partners to conduct an emergency response exercise on May 8 at MSP Airport.

The full-scale exercise will be held between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on MAC-owned property adjacent to the north end of the MSP airfield along South 28th Avenue.

Airline and other aircraft operations will not be impacted.

The training exercise will involve more than 170 participants from the MSP Fire Department, Airport Police Department, multiple MAC operating teams, and nearby mutual aid agencies — all coordinating to respond to a scripted aircraft emergency scenario.

“The overall goal of the full-scale exercise is to make sure that MSP Airport public safety and operational teams — and regional emergency response partners — can execute their roles and responsibilities in response to a major emergency event at MSP,” said Joe Hennessy, the MAC’s director of integrated operations, who oversees airport emergency planning. “This is an opportunity for MSP teams and partners to test the airport’s emergency plan to improve our overall state of readiness and capabilities so we can effectively and quickly respond to emergencies.”
