Pre-security Recycling Receptacles Now Available at MSP Airport

Good news for MSP Airport travelers, visitors and employees. There are now recycling receptacles on the unsecure side at both terminal buildings.

At Terminal 1, look for the brightly covered green canisters in Ticketing, Baggage Claim and the Tram Level. At Terminal 2, look for one in Ticketing, one in Baggage Claim and a third on the mezzanine prior to the security checkpoint.

"It was a simple solution to the vexing issue of customers thinking MSP did not have a recycling program," says Phil Burke, Director of Facilities for the Metropolitan Airports Commission. "We stole the idea from Boston-Logan...making a blast-proof garbage can into a recycling container by simply wrapping it with a design that says, unmistakably, 'this is for recycling.'"

Please take note of these new recycling locations and be sure to direct customers to them.

As part of a related effort to get more airport visitors to recycle, you'll also notice that the recycling containers inside security are now wrapped with a green strip that indicates those receptacles are for paper, cans and bottles only.

Thank you for recycling!
