MSP crash exercise takes place May 7

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) will conduct a large-scale emergency exercise on Thursday, May 7. The exercise is scheduled to be held from approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to practice a large-scale emergency exercise every three years.

The theme of this year’s exercise will be a simulated aircraft crash. During the exercise, the MAC will activate:

  • Incident Command at the "crash site" (Old Navy ramp area)
  • Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the MAC General Offices
  • Friends and Relatives Center at Terminal 1-Lindbergh
  • Survivor Center at Fire Station #1
  • Temporary morgue at the MAC Field Maintenance Building
  • Media gathering/press briefing area at the MAC Drivers Training Center

The MAC will take all efforts to conduct this exercise with the least impact to the airport and its operations. Messaging will be placed throughout the airport to alert customers of the exercise and help to mitigate their possible concerns.

If you have any questions about the exercise, contact Kristi Rollwagen, Emergency Programs Manager, at 612-725-6148 or Kristin.Rollwagen@mspmac.org.
