MSP's Night to Unite brings employees and passengers together

Earlier this week, MSP Night to Unite brought the airport community together to enjoy some treats, learn about MSP and get to know each other better.

More than 20 agencies participated in the event, including the Metropolitan Airports Commission, airlines, tenants and concessionaires. Attendees were able to learn about emergency programs at the airport, meet Airport Police Department (APD) officers and Airport Fire Department members, play with APD canines, and grab some candy for the road.

"We had a great turn out," said Kristi Rollwagen, emergency programs manager for the Metropolitan Airports Commission and organizer of the event. "There was a steady flow of traffic, and a lot of passengers came though, too."

In a traditional setting, Night to Unite is a block-party that provides an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other. Because the airport does not have permanent residents, all airport employees and the traveling public are considered to be our residents.

Next year, Rollwagen hopes to add more signage to the event, offer bags to help people carry the materials they pick up and bring dog treats for all of the four-legged attendees.

Night to Unite is designed to heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime fighting programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. The annual event is sponsored by the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association, AAA of Minnesota/Iowa and local law enforcement communities.
