Restructuring Emphasizes Engagement and Efficiency

Greetings:

The experience travelers have at Minneapolis-St. Paul International is dependent on the hard work of nearly 20,000 employees of hundreds of companies conducting business at the airport. As owner and operator of MSP, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) values and relies on the partnerships we enjoy with those businesses and the dedication of all of you, their employees. We strive to keep our own organization innovative, efficient and accessible so we can address your needs and help your business operate as successfully as possible.

During my first year as the MAC’s CEO, I have had the opportunity to speak with many key leaders of businesses operating at MSP and to gather feedback on ways we can serve you better. Perhaps not surprisingly, you expect from us business clarity, streamlined decision making, financial and operational efficiency, and responsiveness. I am pleased to announce some structural changes within the MAC that will strengthen our ability to meet and hopefully exceed your expectations.

As of July 1, 2017 the following changes will become effective at the MAC:

  • Steve Busch will become the MAC’s first chief financial officer, reporting directly to me. As CFO, Steve will oversee two divisions: Finance and Revenue Development, and Human Resources and Labor Relations. The Commercial Management and Airline Affairs Department, which oversees property management and leasing as well as the MSP concessions program, will join existing Finance-oriented departments in the new Finance and Revenue Development Division. Closer alignment of Commercial Management and Finance functions will streamline leasing, billing and receipt activities as well as efforts to maximize revenues.
  • Planning for capital programs will become its own unit, separate from the Airport Development Department. Those functions, together with the Building Official, will comprise the Planning and Development Division. Bridget Rief is the new vice president of the division, which reports to Chief Operating Officer Dennis Probst. The change will provide greater clarity between planning functions and the construction projects that arise from those plans. The Environmental Programs Department will move from that division to a new division I am creating.
  • The new Division of Strategy and Community/Stakeholder Engagement merges the Public Affairs and Marketing, and Environmental Programs departments as well as Air Service Development and Sustainability into one division. Benefits include enhanced coordination of environmental and sustainability activities, improved integration of sustainability efforts into the MAC strategic plan, an expanded focus on stakeholder engagement by the Noise Programs staff, better alignment of those outreach efforts with Public Affairs and Marketing communications, and greater coordination of air service marketing with the MAC’s other marketing efforts. When selected, the vice president of the new department will report to me.

I am excited about the opportunities this restructuring creates to re-examine processes, realign resources and develop fresh strategies for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Rest assured, we will continue to explore ways to strengthen the partnership between the MAC and airport businesses and to work with you to provide travelers’ best airport experience.

Sincerely,

Brian Ryks
MAC CEO
