Metro Blue Line between Terminals 1 and 2 to close May 31 – June 3

The Metro Blue Line train will shut down between the Fort Snelling and Mall of America stations – including the section between Terminals 1 and 2 at MSP Airport – from 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, through 2 a.m. Monday morning, June 3, for repairs.

Metro Transit replacement buses will transport passengers between the terminals during the shutdown. But this could cause delays for MSP customers and MAC and MSP employees who travel between the terminals or commute via the Blue Line.

IF YOU TAKE LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT FROM MINNEAPOLIS to work at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, you will get off at the Fort Snelling station and board a bus to the appropriate terminal.

IF YOU TAKE LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT FROM MALL OF AMERICA (MOA) to work at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, you will take a bus from the MOA station to the appropriate terminal.

There will be signage and Metro Transit employees at both terminals to direct passengers to the replacement buses.

At Terminal 1, the Blue Line replacement buses will drop off and pick up at the Metro Transit bus stop. This is located on Level 2 on the east side of the departures level (same level as Uber and Lyft vehicles).

At Terminal 2, the replacement buses will stop right next to the rail station platform. Employees and customers can access the bus on the parking ramp side of the rail station. Look for signs and people directing you to the appropriate bus.

Breaks in the line
Tony Klinger, the track manager for Metro Transit, said the shutdown is to replace rails along the Blue Line and to repair tiles in the tunnel between Terminals 1 and 2.

“The goal of our operations is to keep the trains running and the people moving,” he said. “It’s rare to shut our lines down but sometimes you just need to do it.”

Also during the shutdown, MAC Facilities will be upgrading the elevator doors on the light rail platform at Terminal 1.

Second shutdown between 28th Ave. and Mall of America
Once all this work is completed, Metro Transit will shut down the Blue Line again, but this time only at the end of the line between the 28th Avenue and Mall of America stations. This shut down will take place from 2 a.m. Monday, June 3, through 3 a.m. Monday, June 10.

Again, replacement buses will operate between the two stations. Trains will fully resume on the Blue Line by 3 a.m. Monday, June 10.
