Stress-free badge renewal

Here’s a useful step-by-step explanation of how to renew your security badge and do it in a timely, efficient fashion:

  • Look at the expiration date on your badge; now set a calendar reminder on your computer or phone for 60 days prior to the expiration date.
  • About 60 days before your badge expires, schedule your appointment to renew your badge. You can only renew up to 30 days before your expiration, and appointments often book up a couple of weeks ahead of time, so try to book yourself an appointment that will be 15-20 days prior to your badge’s expiration date.
  • Appointments can be booked by going to this website.
  • You’ll want an appointment; the walk-in queue often fills for the day within seconds of opening every morning. Save yourself a long wait and days of frustration trying to get into the walk-in queue.
  • From the badging website, you can select the Forms Library on the right side of the page to download the CURRENT badge application form (using an old version will result in your application being declined). Currently, the only form being accepted is dated July 2019.
  • Complete pages 1-3 of the application and sign and date it on the day that you fill in the application (DO NOT USE THE DATE OF YOUR APOINTMENT ON THE APPLICATON unless that is the date that you are filling out the application). Some fields are not electronically fillable (disqualifying crimes section, date fields, etc.). Overriding these fields and filling in electronically will result in your application being declined. Badge applications are valid for 30 days after they have been signed.
  • After you have completed your application, but no more than 30 days before your appointment, schedule a meeting with your authorized signer. At your meeting, present them with the required forms of Government Issued IDs. The list of acceptable documents can be found at this website.
  • On the day of your appointment, allow time to find a parking space; the parking ramps often fill up on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Parking information is located at this web page.
  • The Badging Office is located on Level 5 between the Red and Blue parking Ramps at Terminal 1 and is above both the tram stop (tram that takes you into Terminal 1) and the Blue Line of the Metro Transit Light Rail system.
  • Show up for your appointment 15-20 minutes ahead of the scheduled time so that you can check in at the Badging Office’s front desk and have your paperwork and IDs reviewed.
  • After you leave the Badging Office with your new badge, go back to the first step and set yourself a new calendar reminder for your next renewal date.
