Bloomington LRT stations to close overnight Friday, July 29 for maintenance

Planned maintenance work will shut down the south end of the Hiawatha light-rail line from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29 through noon on Saturday, July 30.

During construction, buses will substitute for light-rail trains between Terminal 2-Humphrey Station and Mall of America Station in Bloomington. Light-rail trains will operate normally elsewhere along the 12-mile Hiawatha line.

Buses will operate more frequently than trains, but bus trips will take longer than train rides. Customers should plan accordingly. Rider Alerts will be posted at Hiawatha stations that include details and maps to direct customers to Route 55 replacement bus service. This information is also available at metrotransit.org. Metro Transit staff will be on hand at key train stations during peak ridership periods to direct customers to buses.

The light-rail line will undergo routine testing, inspection and maintenance work. In addition, an operations-based emergency preparedness exercise will be staged in the vicinity of 82nd Street and 28th Avenue in Bloomington during this period. The full-scale simulation will involve Bloomington Police and Fire, St. Paul Police and Metro Transit Police and staff. It is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and to conclude before noon.

Customers can learn of any last-minute changes to the weekend plan at metrotransit.org or by calling the rail maintenance hotline at 612-373-3333, option 6.

The four stations impacted by the closure are: American Boulevard, Bloomington Central, 28th Avenue and Mall of America.
