Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Introduces Complimentary Wi-Fi service to its passengers

Travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) now have access to complimentary wireless (Wi-Fi) internet service.

“Free Wi-Fi has topped the wish lists of travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for some time, and we are pleased to be able to provide that service through our agreement with Advanced Wireless Group,” said Jeff Hamiel, chief executive officer/executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which owns and operates MSP and six general aviation airports in Minnesota.

Travelers simply open their browser on their laptop, tablet or Smartphone and select MSP-WiFi from their network choices. If they prefer, users can visit www.airportwifi.com/MSP to gain access to the public Wi-Fi system. Travelers watch a brief advertisement or take a short survey followed by 45 minutes of complimentary WiFi service. A timer reminds travelers of the session time that remains. Once the session expires, customers can view another sponsored advertisement or take another quick survey in order to continue using complimentary Wi-Fi. Travelers can enjoy as many of these free sessions as they choose while visiting MSP.

For those preferring an uninterrupted, commercial-free experience or a session with greater bandwidth and four times the speed, a premium service is available for only $2.95 for 24-hour use.

Prior to the new agreement with AWG, all public WiFi use was fee-based, with charges of up to $7.95.

“We are thrilled to welcome MSP to the growing family of AWG airports providing complimentary Wi-Fi to their passengers and look forward to supporting the MAC’s goal to deliver this valuable amenity to its passengers,” said Scott Phillips, President and CEO at AWG. “Travelers to the Twin Cities will now be able to enjoy Wi-Fi access with bandwidth that should satisfy the average user’s needs, along with faster speeds available to power users for a small fee.”

The launch of complimentary Wi-Fi is taking place less than 90 days after the MAC awarded AWG a contract through a competitive process. In anticipation of the exponential growth in network demand, the company has installed a host of new access points and is currently proceeding with the upgrade of existing equipment while maintaining a fully operational, robust infrastructure throughout the 2 million square feet of airport public terminal space.
