New Lactation Centers at Terminal 1 Designed for Travelers AND Employees

Nursing moms now have two new spaces at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) specifically designed for privately expressing breast milk.

The two spaces are located in Terminal 1-Lindbergh. One is on Concourse F near Gate F2 and the other is on Concourse C across from Gate C13.

These secure, sanitary rooms keep lactating moms in mind with features like a deep sink for cleaning equipment, easily accessible electrical outlets, soft lighting, artwork and comfortable seating.

"The MAC's new standards for restrooms and other amenities, including the upcoming service animal relief, nursing mothers', and two recently opened lactation rooms, complement the MAC's vision statement of 'providing the best airport experience in north America' and are a look towards even more improvements in the coming years," says Alan Howell, senior airport architect.

Travelers and airport employees who wish to use a center for expressing their milk can gain access by visiting a nearby information booth. For the Concourse F location, the booth across from Chili's in the Airport Mall is the place to go. Go to the booth across from Gate C12 for the Concourse C location. The travelers assistance volunteer will unlock the room. When the door closes, it will lock from the inside showing an "occupied" message on the outside.

When the door is opened again, a janitorial staff member is automatically notified so that they know the room needs cleaning. When the information booths are unstaffed, travelers and employees are instructed via a sign at the information booths to call the janitorial manager on duty for access.

Additional locations are in the works. One will be added at Terminal 2-Humphrey in 2016 as that terminal expands. Another will be added to Terminal 1 in 2015 at the entrance to Concourse E.

Oh, and by the way, the nursing mothers room on Concourse C above Gate C13 is still available to moms who need to nurse or express milk but don't need a sink.
