MSP shoe shiners reach out to law enforcement

They don't call him the Mayor of the (Airport) Mall for nothing.

Danny Givens, who owns and operates DG Express Professional Shoe Shine out of MSP Airport (MSP); and Glen Brown, an independent shoe shine operator for the business, were featured Monday (Aug. 3) in the St. Paul Pioneer Press for their approach to making connections between law enforcement and the African-American community.

Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis Police custody earlier this summer, Givens and Brown decided to give complimentary shoe shines for St. Paul Police officers to build a bridge between law enforcement and the African-American community.

Givens is particularly well known at MSP for his cheerful morning greetings to MSP employees from his primary shoe shine stand just inside security of the employee entrance at Terminal 1. That helped earn him the unofficial moniker, "Mayor of the Mall."
