REAL ID deadline extended to 2025

On December 5, the Department of Homeland Security announced the deadline for having a REAL ID, or an equivalent alternative ID, to fly on a commercial airliner or enter federal buildings has been extended to May 7, 2025 - a two-year extension.

Essentially, this allows air travelers to continue to use their standard driver's licenses as identification for air travel until May 6, 2025.

The Minnesota Department of Public safety continues to offer - by appointment - REAL ID services pre-security at Terminal 1. The kiosk is on the skyway level between the Green and Gold parking ramps.

About the Real ID Act: Passed by Congress in 2005, the Real ID Act enacted the 9/11 Commission's recommendation that the federal government "set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses." The act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards, and prohibits federal agencies from accepting licenses and identification cards for official purposes from states that do not meet these standards.
