Delta opens third Sky Club at MSP

After years of planning and construction, the newest Delta Air Lines Sky Club has finally opened its doors at MSP. It was 4:30 a.m., April 19, to be exact.

And there are plenty of Delta customers who have been waiting anxiously to experience the airline's next generation lounge in Concourse G.

This is MSP's third and largest Sky Club lounge, spanning 21,000 square feet, with expansive views to the airfield and the constant flow of passengers below through upper-level windows that hug the new Concourse G Rotunda.

The Concourse G Sky Club is one of the latest Delta lounges to make its debut across the country, but it's style and design are unique to MSP.

"This lounge really evokes Minnesota and the land of 10,000 lakes, the colors that you see – the copper, the bronze and rich greens — we tried emulate the foliage of Minnesota," said Claude Roussel, the Delta Sky Club managing director. "We really work very intentionally in creating something that is centric to the city that we're in."

It's also one of a few Sky Clubs to feature an all-weather Sky Deck and an open-air bar with seating for up to 110 guests. All-weather means all year – meaning there could be some hearty travelers in the future who will enjoy a "snow deck" experience before their next flight.

The lounge has an overall capacity for 450 customers with premium club amenities, including:

  • Three kiosks for quick and easy self-check-in.
  • A full buffet.
  • Two premium bars (including one that features the colors of a Minnesota sunset).
  • Three soundproof booths for quiet work.

The "MSP-G Club," as Delta references its new lounge, will also feature a regular menu rotation featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients and dishes from Twin Cities native and Top Chef alum Justin Sutherland. The lounge will also showcase menu creations from other local chefs throughout the year as part of Delta Sky Club's Local Flavor program.

The new airport lounge was a core element in the MAC's recent Concourse G expansion project completed a year ago. The project expanded and modernized gates G17-G22 around the new two-level rotunda with a large central Terrazzo corridor, new restrooms and more concessions.

The newest lounge will also alleviate congestion and demand at Delta's two other clubs (F/G and C), expanding the overall Sky Club capacity at MSP to more than 900 customers at any one time.
