Women's History Month: the MAC highlights Women in Aviation International

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Metropolitan Airports Commission's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion honors Women in Aviation International. WAI is the largest organization in the world dedicated to increasing the number of women involved in all aspects of aviation and aerospace.

WAI’s goal is to:

  • Invest in the current and future workforce.
  • Build a diverse, inclusive and sustainable aviation and aerospace industry around the world.
  • Inspire women and girls to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace.

WAI acknowledges that in most aviation occupations, women make up less than 20% of the workforce — and for the last 60 years, the introduction of women into the aviation and aerospace industry has been largely dormant. The aviation industry needs more women to pursue aviation careers to access the breadth of talent needed to meet current — and growing — workforce challenges. Attracting, retaining and advancing women in aviation is critical to the aviation industry’s safety, sustainability, profitability and ability to innovate.

As a result, WAI’s focus is to provide services and support to members at every stage of their journeys in aviation and aerospace. The organization encourages, empowers and educates all those whose interests, lives and work involve aviation and aerospace, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental abilities, or point of view.

ODEI is grateful for organizations like WAI that are focused on promoting opportunities in the aviation industry and supporting women in the pursuit of their dreams. For more information, visit WAI’s website.
