American Cancer Society: Cancer Prevention Study-3 Sign Up

On May 12, 2011, you can fight cancer by enrolling in the American Cancer Society’s new research study, Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).  Enrollment will be held at MSP Airport, Terminal 1, Gates G7/8, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. This is the same day as our “Relay for Life”.

The ultimate goal of CPS-3 is to enroll men and women from various racial/ethnic backgrounds from across the U.S. to better understand the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer and will save lives.

If you are between the ages of 30 and 65 years old and have never been diagnosed with cancer, you are eligible to enroll.  If you are interested in enrolling, please follow these simple steps:

• At the enrollment, you will be asked to sign an informed consent, complete a brief survey, provide a waist measurement, and donate a small blood sample (similar to a doctor’s visit).  The blood sample will be taken by a certified, trained phlebotomist.
• At home, following your enrollment, you will be asked to complete a more comprehensive survey.  This survey will ask you questions regarding medications you are taking, family history of cancer, etc.  This survey must be returned in order to be enrolled in the study.
• In the future, you will be asked to complete a mailed survey every few years over the next 20-30 years to update lifestyle, medical, and behavioral information.

All personal information and any individual results of blood analyses that may be performed will be kept strictly confidential by CPS-3 research staff.  There will be no cost to you to participate.
