New 34th Ave. S. interchange now open

The new Diverging Diamond Interchange at 34th Ave. S. and I-494 opened yesterday, October 27. The opening of the interchange was the culmination of a five-phase project which began in July of 2013.

The Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDl) slows traffic exiting and entering I-494 at 34th Ave. The DDl improves traffic flow, reduces congestion and enhances safety around Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's Terminal 2-Humphrey.

The construction of the 34th Ave. DDl debuted this formation in the Twin Cities and is the first U.S. project to incorporate railway commuting as well as motorist traffic. The 34th Ave. interchange project is part of a larger growth plan for the airport's Terminal 2-Humphrey.
