REAL ID booth moves to pre-security spot in MSP’s Gold Ramp

Applying for a REAL ID at MSP Airport just got a little easier, as the REAL ID kiosk has moved this week from inside the secure area to a pre-security location on Level 3 of the Gold Ramp.

Since March 2020, the booth had been located in a niche next to the Prince store in the Airport Mall. Now anyone, with or without a ticket to fly, can visit the kiosk. Moving the kiosk also frees up space for improvements happening at the South Security Checkpoint.

It also allows for the reconfiguring of the concessions space nearby to accommodate the Prince Store. The old MSP to Go space will be a Foreign Currency Exchange when it is finished being built. The REAL ID booth hours are  9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is closed for lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day.

The original kiosk opened in 2020. For most people, a REAL ID will be necessary to board a commercial aircraft after May 3, 2023, although a valid U.S. passport, military ID or enhanced ID can also be used after that date.

Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. Congress passed the REAL ID Act, which imposed minimum security standards for state-issued licenses.
