Blue Line buses replace trains June 29-Aug. 19

Starting June 29, buses will replace Metro Blue Line trains between Target Field and Mall of America stations through Aug. 19. The change will affect how riders access MSP Airport.

What’s changing

Metro Transit will operate temporary replacement buses that substitute for the train service along the entire Blue Line corridor while construction work is completed along the route.

The replacement buses will be the primary connection between terminals for the duration of the closure:

The replacement bus will run between terminals overnight, maintaining 24-hour connectivity.

Riders should plan for longer travel times, as bus trips typically take more time than the rail service they replace.

Why the work is happening

The Tracks and Signals project is designed to improve long-term system reliability for the Blue Line, which has been in service for more than 20 years. The construction supports significant infrastructure improvements along the corridor, including rail replacement and train signal upgrades.

The MAC is using the Blue Line construction as an opportunity to complete its own station improvement work. The MAC will modernize escalators at both terminal stations and add a second elevator at the Terminal 1 station, providing critical redundancy and maintenance improvements.

A third phase of the Track and Signals project is planned for spring and summer 2027, with more MAC station improvements expected during that time.
