There’s still time to join the Special Olympics Minnesota Plane Pull this September

The 2026 Special Olympics Minnesota Plane Pull is six weeks away on Saturday, Sept. 12, and there’s still time to get your team on the tarmac.

How it works

Each team of up to eight pulls an Endeavor Airlines regional jet 25 feet down the MSP airfield, with timers recording each pull. Teams pull twice; finalists earn a third pull. There is no individual fundraising minimum — each team is asked to raise at least $1,000 total, which works out to about $125 per team member.

The day includes food trucks, music, T-shirts for participants and volunteers, and activities for kids. Participants can expect to spend about two hours at the airport.

This year's event introduces a morning and afternoon session to bring the same high energy to all groups. The afternoon session starts at 12:30 p.m. and includes a MAC division, public safety division, gym division and delegation/unified division, plus any team that doesn't fit neatly into another category.  

The Airport Police Department is again sponsoring the event, and the goal is to grow MAC participation even further this year. Funds raised support Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN), whose mission is to create a world of inclusion and acceptance for people with intellectual disabilities.  

Ready to pull?  

MAC departments are encouraged to organize a team, and individuals are welcome to pull together their own group of friends, coworkers or community members. The event is open to the public.
