Fueling travelers and celebrating heritage: Caribou MSP Airport’s story

For Women’s History Month, the Office of Civil Rights and Small Business Development recognizes Kerry Forbes, owner and operator of Caribou MSP Airport. Forbes operates multiple locations across Terminals 1 and 2, including Concourses F and G, the Airport Mall and the Arrivals Level.

From $5 an hour to majority owner

Forbes’ journey is as inspiring as the coffee she serves. She started as a team member at Caribou Coffee’s first Minneapolis location in 1993, earning $5 an hour. 

“I loved the startup energy, the guests and the coffeehouse experience,” she recalled. 

After helping expand the brand to 18 Twin Cities locations and then into Atlanta, Forbes seized the opportunity to acquire Caribou MSP Airport. Today, she leads the business with passion and purpose.

Celebrating Women’s History Month

Forbes reflects deeply on the significance of Women’s History Month: “It’s a time to recognize and celebrate the women who came before us — those who broke barriers and made impactful contributions. Personally, I’m grateful for the tremendous advancements of women in business that opened opportunities for me and my peers. Their courage and tenacity inspire me every day.”

Impact beyond the cup

Caribou MSP Airport isn’t just about coffee — it’s about community. In 2025 alone, the business donated 115 gallons of coffee, 10 gallons of hot chocolate and 65 pounds of pre-packed coffee to events supporting travelers, volunteers and U.S. troops. 

“Coffee is a great connector,” Forbes said. “We’re proud to play a small part in this incredible MSP Airport community.”

A story of kindness

One memorable moment wasn’t about coffee at all. Forbes recalls helping a lost traveler find her shuttle to Rochester. “She was anxious and couldn’t locate the pick-up area. Instead of giving directions, I walked her there myself. When we arrived, she was so relieved and gave me a hug. That made my day.”
