Get a behind-the-scenes look at airport policing with the Citizens Airport Police Academy
The MSP Airport Police Department (APD) is opening registration for the second year of its popular Citizens Airport Police Academy, which gives MAC and MSP employees a firsthand look at the work, training and expertise that airport police officers bring to MSP every day.
Last year’s inaugural cohort included employees from Field Maintenance, Strategic Marketing, Airport Development and Human Resources who came away with a new appreciation for airport policing.
“The APD Citizens Academy was incredibly informative. I was surprised at the different units of work and the intention to find the best dogs for our K-9 unit,” said Tekia Jefferson, director of the MAC’s Office of Civil Rights and Small Business Development. “I only wished we had more time to dive into more of the great work the APD engages in.”
How to register
Complete the registration form by May 1 to reserve your spot.
Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. You must have an airport badge to participate. For questions, contact Lt. John Christenson at john.christenson@mspmac.org.
What to expect
The 2026 academy runs on Thursdays from May 28 through June 25, 6 to 8 p.m., at the General Offices. Across five 2-hour sessions, participants explore APD operations up close. Past sessions have included:
