Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport Summer Travel Tips from MSP International Airport

Minneapolis-St. Paul – Summer is the busiest time of year for air travel at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). More people fly to and from MSP in July than during any other month. With the Fourth of July holiday upon us, it’s worth considering a few tips for a satisfying trip.

Prepare for security BEFORE you leave home. Everyone has a part to play in keeping airport security lines moving. Learn what you can and cannot take though a security checkpoint by visiting the Transportation Security Administration’s website at www.tsa.gov You also may be interested in the helpful security checkpoint tips featured in a new presentation playing at MSP’s Terminal 2-Humphrey.

Allow plenty of time. We’re growing! With the addition of new low-cost carriers at Terminal 2-Humphrey, traffic has increased and it’s busier than ever. Security lines have been particularly long during the early morning hours. (Construction of a second Terminal 2 security checkpoint is in full swing to help reduce those lines. Look for it in October 2012.) To ensure a pleasant experience at the airport, be sure to arrive at MSP at least two hours prior to departure for domestic flights and three hours prior for international flights. This will allow ample time for check-in, security screening, and getting to your gate.

Check parking ramp status before you hit the road. MSP's parking facilities are busiest on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with parking ramps at Terminal 1-Lindbergh filling to capacity at times. MSP Value Parking at Terminal 2-Humphrey has ample space and is $6 a day cheaper than general parking at Terminal 1. Free light rail transfers travelers between terminals. Learn all you need to know about parking at MSP, including real-time parking availability, by calling 1-877-FLY-PARK (1-877-359-7275) or visitingwww.mspairport.com/parking.aspx.
